flora and fauna
I hold a deep reverence for weeds and wildflowers. Weeds being undesired, hold steady in harsh environments growing strong limbs with extravagant leaves. This action of resilience is a reminder that we will persist, even when unwelcome. Wildflowers being admired in fields as they sway, wait quietly for the perfect conditions to rise and bloom. Their exquisite beauty and sweet nectar is a gift they offer to all.
Giving time to get lost in the ephemeral wonder of these delicate forms extends a quiet space I need in our fast paced and grinding culture. The process starts with freestanding clay thats been pressed with carved blocks and fired at a low tempreture. The papers are hand painted or block printed with a variety of mediums; watercolor, acrylic and/or ink and cut individually, sculpted and assembled to approximately 6-12” tall. I build the work gradually over time, without rush, observing their form. Each one is a celebration. Below you will find a few of the many that now reside around Los Angeles.
